On the 5th of November 2003 our annual Charity Marathon took place at Croxteth Sports Centre. The day was once again a great success with about 50 students attending and enjoying continuous Tai Chi for 6 hours.
This event is looked forward to by the School and it is a great way of meeting our members from the many classes in and around Merseyside not to mention raising a lot of money for our local charities.
|
This year the charity chosen was the Cardiothoracic Centre at Broadgreen Hospital.
Coronary Heart Disease is a major killer on Merseyside and we were amazed to discover that in some areas the death rate from heart disease is nearly twice the national average. Tremendous work both in patient care and research takes place in this unit and we considered that they were a very good project for this years marathon.

In January 2004, Master Kwong Tam, JIm Mandaracas, Margie Games and Pat Dunne went down to the C.T.C. to hand over our sponsor funds. The marathon had raised £2,158 to that point.
They met the fundraising team Alan Birchall (Chairman), Carol Kirkham (Fundraising Manager) and Lyndsey Richards (Fundraising Administrator) talking at length about the work that was being done and their many hopes for more development into improving and lowering the risks factors that cause heart disease.
The team were very interested in the our School and the great level of voluntary work we do for various charities.
A couple of weeks later they went back to hand in another cheque given by the Giro Bank in support of our marathon. A fantastic gesture on behalf of Giro and the princely some of £1000. Many, many thanks to Giro Bank.

So, in all we raised a superb sum of £3,158.
Thanks to all who took part in the marathon and to all the people who support us every year.
